The bond that links your true family is not one of blood, but of respect and joy in each other's life. Rarely do members of one family grow up under the same roof." - Richard Bach

insert witty blog title here

We fed our snake, Crackerjack, his first live mouse yesterday. Up to this point he has been eating frozen mice that Kainon defrosts in hot water. Miah was excited to watch until Kainon dropped the mouse from his cardboard box into the tank. It was a black and white mouse. Miah started crying. “I know it’s the circle of life but did you have to get one that looks like a panda?!” She recovered.

I am wearing these funky khaki pants that I bought at the thrift store. I think I’m wearing coo lots. I am one blazer short of being my mother.

This is the best time of year when you can sleep comfortably with the windows open and sit at night on the porch swing. There is a really loud bird outside my bedroom that keeps drowning out my Pat Benatar alarm. It makes me want to put a pellet gun under my pillow.

Sis moved out yesterday. It went smoother than expected. She packed up her stuff, cleaned her room and left little notes for the girls. It was anticlimactic, and I am very grateful.

Zeph reappeared on the “naughty list” yesterday for pushing on the playground. “Mom, she pushed me first and it was self-defense.” How do I argue with that?

Trinity has now decided (when school is almost over) that reading is important. But reading can only be done OUT LOUD AT 110 DECIBELS. Bedtime reading to wind down is having the reverse effect. CHUPACABRA!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our next door neighbor sounds just like Carl from Slingblade when he talks.. He mows our front lawn shirtless, surely to tan his 8 month baby bump, with a cigarette hanging off his lip resembling Andy Capp. The kids chat him up whenever they see him. He is very rough around the edges, but is a big softy. Yesterday he came by to give the girls two big beautiful flower arrangements that he potted for them. He gave them care instructions and they in turn gave him a big hug. Gestures like that keep your insides smiling.

I think I’ll eat sweet potato fries and ice cream for lunch today.
