Jason's children love him. Savannah will follow him around to the house just to talk to him. Wrigley snuggles into Jason on the couch or bed. Junah says "my dad is a superhero."
But now our children love us. Savannah has apologized to me when she has hurt my feelings. (That is a big deal for her.) She hugs me often. Kainon lights up when Jason has free time to take him driving or play ball. Wrigley will stand in the bathroom while I'm getting ready just to talk to me about his happenings.
Miah, who has really struggled with her dad/abandonment issues in the past has been doing so well. No acting out. No tears. She is happy. She feels secure with Jason. She loves him. She says "he will not leave me." No. He won't.
Junah, who has really struggled with his mom and dad moving on with separate lives, ran up the stairs before heading out the door to go to school. "Kortney, could you pick me up at the ballet (translation: valet pickup lane) today or maybe in the office after school like Mom's do?" He asks me things like "Where did you learn to be a good mom?" He shares his prized posessions with me. He loves me.
Trinity:
Zeph and I have a little bedtime ritual where we say "Who loves you? you Who loves me? me" and then the other person says it. Its always been our little secret thing. Last night, I heard him say to Jason "Who loves you?" and Zeph taught him our game. I teared up outside the door.
Our children love us. We're a family. We're lucky people.
(now remind me of this when I want to strangle them in the checkout line)
Beautiful. I love it all and the last line cracked my up. You are all blessed indeed.
